Runners for the C & O Canal
5-K Race, September 16th, 8 am
Beautiful section of the Canal towpath near Dam #4
I love the C & O Canal. I've biked its entire 184.5 miles three times on through trips, and spent many more hours running and biking along different sections. While representing my high school (Bethesda-Chevy Chase) as a Learn-Serve International fellow during my sophomore year, I learned how to affect social change using the non-profit model. I decided to organize a race that would affect change in two ways close to my heart ... by promoting exercise and a healthier community & by raising money to preserve and repair the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, my favorite national park. All proceeds from this annual 5-K race go directly to the C&O Canal Trust, the official nonprofit partner of the C&O. In 2011, the race had 103 registered runners and walkers and donated almost $2000 to the C&O Canal. Let's double those numbers in 2012!

C&O Canal Trust members tour the Anglers Breach repair site near Great Falls. The Trust is working with the National Park Service on this project.
If you love the C&O, or if you simply want to run/walk a beautiful, flat 5-K course for a great cause, please join me on September 16th at 8 am!
See you in September!
