Runners for the C & O Canal
5-K Race, September 16th, 8 am

Beautiful section of the Canal towpath near Dam #4
I love the C & O Canal. I'm looking forward to biking its entire 184.5 miles for the 4th time this summer. While representing my high school (Bethesda-Chevy Chase) as a Learn-Serve International fellow during my sophomore year, I learned how to affect social change using the non-profit model. I decided to organize a race that would affect change on several levels. First, it would be a community builder for my high school. Second, it would promote a healthier community. Third, it would attract members of the surrounding community, so students will feel connected to the world outside the school walls. Finally, it would educate the community about the need to preserve and repair the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park, my favorite national park. All proceeds from this annual 5-K race go directly to the C&O Canal Trust, the official nonprofit partner of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal NHP. Last year, the race had 103 registered runners and walkers and donated almost $2000 to the C&O Canal. Let's double those numbers in 2012.
If you love the C&O, if you want to strengthen the B-CC community, or if you simply want to run or walk a beautiful, flat 5-K course in Chevy Chase, MD, join us on September 16, 2012 at 8 am at Meadowbrook Park.
See you in September!
